Quietkat, Rambo, and BAKCOU - What’s New With The 3 Biggest Names In Fat Tire Electric Hunting Bikes

Posted by Mountain East eBike on

Year in and year out it seems the 3 biggest names in the world of fat tire electric hunting bikes continue to be Quietkat, BAKCOU, and Rambo. All of them are well known for using high-quality components to create fun, reliable, tough machines that will completely revolutionize your outdoor experience, whether you're using them for hunting or just exploring.  Every year these manufacturers continue to refine and improve their products, so let’s take a look at what’s new with the world’s top fat tire electric hunting bike manufacturers!

QuietKat

For 2020, Quietkat has announced that they have completely redesigned the frame on their e-bikes. The new look and geometry features an integrated battery. Additionally, Quietkat now has motor options available for all of their e-bike models. Customers can now select which power level works best for them based on the terrain they plan to ride. All Quietkat e-bikes equipped with a 750 watt or less motor, are now compliant with United States federal law class 2* electric bicycle regulations. Quietkat’s patented modular dropout design means you can now swap your dropouts easily and run different axle standards. Customers can also now switch between single-speed and geared drivetrains. Both the Apex and RidgeRunner models both are now offered in new color patterns and all bikes have upgraded components. Quietkat has also proudly announced a partnership with Jeep® to create the first Jeep e-bike available in the USA!

In addition to their more traditional fat tire electric hunting bike models, Quietkat continues to offer a folding option (the Voyager) as well as a Trike (the Prowler). Also new for 2020, is the Villager, specifically designed not for hunting, but rather for riders looking for fun, environmentally-friendly transportation for getting around town. The Villager features a 500W motor, as well as a step-thru frame design, which makes getting on or off the bike a breeze. The ride is smooth and comfortable - being a Quietkat though, it obviously still has enough power to climb steep inclines and stop on a dime! Another interesting addition to their lineup for 2020 is the Ripper. The Ripper is aimed at the youth market and specifically designed for riders under 5’6” tall. It features a 500W motor and QuietKat’s performance build kit, which includes mechanical disc brakes, adjustable coil-suspension, and a single speed drivetrain.

Quietkat APEX

The Apex is Quietkat’s top selling electric fat tire hunting bike for good reason and for 2020 it will only get better. The new 2020 version features an all-new integrated battery and motor system as well as an updated frame geometry that ensures focused weight distribution to optimize ride quality and handling. The Apex features QuietKat’s top build kit, including adjustable air suspension, 4-Piston Hydraulic Brakes, and a 9 speed drivetrain. The mid-drive motor paired with wide-range gearing provides maximum torque for climbing steep hills. The Apex is designed for the most rugged and advanced off-road terrain including steep mountain ascents and descents on singletrack trails. It is now available in 1500W, 1000W, and 750W motor options.

BAKCOU

Formerly BackCountry eBikes, in 2019 they announced that they would be rebranding to BAKCOU eBikes. However, in terms of their quality and passion, you can rest assured that nothing has changed.

When you think of BAKCOU, the first model that probably comes to mind is the Mule. The Mule has been BAKCOU’s #1 selling fat tire, electric hunting bike for 4 years. In 2020, BAKCOU will now offer a step through version of the Mule. Essentially it is the exact same bike as the Mule, except that the top tube swoops down which allows for a  shorter stand over height (26” versus 29.5” for the standard Mule). Both Mule models can be purchased with either a 14.5ah, 17.4ah, or a 21ah battery. You also get to choose between a 750 watt or a 1000 watt Bafang Ultra Motor. Available colors are Kuiu Verde 2.0, Desert Tan, Matte Black, and White. The Mule and Mule ST both come standard with 26" tires but the Mule ST can also be ordered in a 24" tire.

New to the BAKCOU lineup for 2020 is The Flatlander and the Flatlander ST (step through). Both versions are offered with a Bafang 750w, high end, rear hub motor. BAKCOU specifically designed this model for customers that will do most of their riding on flat land. The standover height on the Flatlander is 29.5" and the Flatlander ST is 26". For both versions you can choose from a 14.5ah, 17.4ah, or 21ah battery. Available colors are Kuiu Verde 2.0, Desert Tan, Matte Black, and White.

BAKCOU Mule

The Mule continues to be one of the top-selling fat tire electric bikes on the market every year and remains an excellent option for anyone looking for a powerful, tough, agile, and quiet ride.

The Mule was engineered and designed around the phenomenal power and performance of Bafang’s ULTRA mid-drive motor. The Ultra motor is widely considered the “diesel engine” of mid-drive motors. It’s all metal, heavy-duty gearing, and intelligent integrated torque sensor, make the Ultra motor perhaps the most efficient, capable, and durable motor available. The Ultra motor is also referred to as a “smart motor.” The speed, cadence, shift, brake, and torque sensors provide continuous feedback from the rider to the motor. This allows the motor to deliver exactly what you ask. What you get, is a very natural feeling ride, even while providing a tremendous amount of torque and power output.
